I thought recently that I know a little about a lot of new friends on Twitter and LinkedIn, but would like to know more about them. And so, I threw open the gates to my blog, saying ‘if ye should like to tell me your story, then ye get in there and do it!’

Alan McBride was the first to retweet my request and get involved – he’s a traveller, writer, photographer and lover of wildlife (not of the Kings Cross variety) – so an interesting profile to kick things off, methinks.

Describe yourself in three words.

MBO… Master of the Bleeding Obvious.

What do you do?

Writing, photography, subtle social networking for Wildiaries.comBird-o.com, allowing people to share and promote wildlife experiences worldwide. Manage operations at Studio49 Photography, in Sydney’s Inner-west at Annandale.

What are you passionate about?

Wildlife, photography, travel, learning something new every day, communicating to others, good service and above all good manners.

Teaching young people to explore and play outside; away from cables connected to video games!

Humour is an element rapidly disappearing in the world.

Cooking and good food; don’t tell the restaurants that people like good food or they’ll put the prices up!

What are your feelings about social media and communities online?

I’ve worked for several years providing what I call ‘subtle social networking’ that is providing, promoting and cross promoting without it being blatantly obvious who is promoting who and for what reason. It’s far more effective if done this way. Online communities are great for meeting people (and for blocking the obvious ones).

Some accounts are used more for wildlife, some more for photography and others for business, it depends on the genre of the moment or the posting.

Who do you credit for getting you to your current place in the world?

My Mum, then me!

What excites you?

Travel, birding trips to new countries, in fact any trip to a new country.

Actually make that any trip, anywhere…although first and foremost in France for as long as possible.

New camera lenses. Cooking. Wine. (Ed. In that order?)

Do you have a secret to getting things done?

Only ever have an Out Tray… In Trays attract rubbish!

If you could work with anyone, who would it be?

Jose Mourinho.

Favourite quote:

“Them who don’t want don’t ask; them who don’t ask don’t get!”
