As a result of being immersed in online communities, I have a network chock-full of people who make it their work to help others, who love to learn, want to collaborate and have fun playing in the social media sandpit.
Rebecca, who works with Spinal Cord Injuries Australia (a past client of Sarah Allen Consulting), is just one of those people.
Take it away Rebecca!
Describe yourself in three words.
Willing to learn.
What are you passionate about?
Art. People. Events. Chocolate.
Do you do the social media thing?
Definitely do! I wish I could become the master at all things socially online, but it moves at a pace that is much faster than I can run!
How did you find yourself in the land of Twitter?
I didn’t at first. I am a Facebooker through and through. It’s my first love when it comes to social media. I’m still learning slowly about Twitter. I’ll get there eventually..
Do you have any other social media involvement?
I started a few years back with a MySpace page (yes, I am showing my age now) but went with the times and moved to Facebook. Not long after I started my fabulous job at Spinal Cord Injuries Australia, I was given the fun task of being the social media butterfly. We have two Facebook pages, a Blog, a Youtube channel, a Twitter account and are on LinkedIn. I am also active with PlanBig, have a LinkedIn profile myself and have fun on other social tools like Animoto.
What are you currently playing with in the social media sandpit?
There are so many Facebook apps out there! Mostly just having fun trying to work out which ones are best for our pages. When I am bored I like using StumbleUpon… it’s great to find things you may have never otherwise.
How did you get where you are today?
I accidently stumbled upon the best job of my life… really! It challenges me in a way where it makes me want to get out of bed and tackle the task ahead rather than pulling the sheets over my head to hide. It also helps that every person I work with is AMAZING in their own way.
What are you doing at the moment that excites you?
I am currently working a project with a fantastic community fundraiser for my charity. They are holding the ‘Walk. Why Not?’ ball. It’s a great opportunity to have a bit of fun and raise some money for a fantastic program that helps people after a spinal cord injury regain some strength, functionality and confidence.
What is your secret to getting big things done?
Hmmm… perhaps others can let me in on their secret as I am sure I could use some help in that department.
Name any dream brands you would love to collaborate with.
I would love to work on some really creative events where your jaw drops when you walk into the venue, whether they be big or small. I could imagine some of the big brands out there have some pretty awesome launches!
